According to a study of tourism in the capital, there was an increase of 58 percent in the number of Israelis staying in Jerusalem hotels, as compared to last November. Furthermore, there was even an 8 percent increase over the statistics for November 1999. This suggests that Jerusalem has successfully increased its internal tourism back to levels better than those enjoyed prior to the current Israel-PLO warfare.
Over the course of the last few months, the Tourism Department of the Jerusalem City Hall and the Jerusalem Hoteliers Association have been conducting campaigns and offering special deals to encourage Israelis to vacation in the capital. The head of the Tourism Department and the head of the Hoteliers Association both expressed pleasure with the results of their efforts. They said that Israelis prefer Jerusalem, because of the city?s varied cultural activities and because of the special offers provided by hotels in the city.
