Representatives of the world membership of the Hashomer Hatzair movement, one of the oldest Zionist youth groups in existence, convened last week in Israel for meetings of the organization?s World Council. The forty youths in the World Council came together from twenty countries around the world. The meetings, in conjunction with the Jewish Agency?s Hagshama and Education departments and the World Zionist Organization, were held here in an show of support for Israel in its current hour of need.



Some of the World Council attendees had recently completed a yearlong educational program in Israel (hachsharah), geared towards encouraging Zionist fulfillment. The Hashomer Hatzair representatives were set to meet with Members of Knesset, visits to movement kibbutzim in southern Israel that are involved in aliyah absorption, along with various tours around Israel. The World Council opened its meetings and programs with a special ceremony at Kibbutz Ramat Rachel in Jerusalem.
