The Pittsburgh chapter of Na?amat Jewish women?s organization, in conjunction with the Wiener Fund, has provided funding for a new women?s health center in Carmiel. The center was inaugurated last month in a ceremony attended by Carmiel?s mayor, representatives of Na?amat Pittsburgh and the Wiener Fund, the Misgav Regional Council, members of the Managing Board of the center, clinic directors, representatives of the Pittsburgh community in Israel, Partnership 2000 activists and representatives of the ?Voices 2000? women?s forum.
?Voices 2000? is a forum of women from Carmiel, Misgav, Baltimore and Pittsburgh and the opening of the women?s center, according to Jewish Agency spokesmen, represents the ?culmination of ongoing activity? by the forum. The center will help increase awareness of women?s health issues such as breast cancer, post-natal depression, symptoms of menopause, etc. According to Yael Reich, head of the Jewish Agency?s Carmiel-Segev office, and as reported in Global Jewish Agenda, ?the center?s activities will be based on outreach, with specialists coming to the community, similar to the program at Baltimore?s Mt. Sinai Hospital.? Teams from the center, including volunteer doctors and nurses from community clinics, will visit area schools, businesses and community centers in order to give lectures and workshops and to perform examinations.
