Optibase, headquartered in Israel, has been selected by both the Michigan legislature and the Italian postal authority to provide live-content video systems.

The Michigan House of Representatives has selected Optibase?s MGW 2000 streaming server to provide real-time video of House proceedings, committee meetings and CNN news, among other items. The MGW 2000 uses MPEG-1 content transferred over an IP infrastructure and allows multiple channels of live feeds along with the ability to transmit data over the system. In this way, Michigan Representatives will have access to needed news, information and proceedings from their own single desktop computer station.

Meanwhile, in Italy, Optibase has been selected by the Italian postal authority to provide ?video-in-a-window? for multimedia information screens being installed in post offices throughout Italy. The information screens will provide customers waiting on line frequently updated promotional information, public service messages, the user's current number in the queue and more. The data to be displayed will be transmitted either by WAN or satellite network and converted for screen display. The video clips to be incorporated will be powered by the VideoPlex XPress MPEG-2 playback board, which receives the MPEG-2 digital stream and decodes it for display. The system, dubbed Genius, will eventually be used for customer service in more than 1,000 post offices across the country.

According to the company?s promotional material, ?Optibase products are marketed in over 40 countries through direct sales, independent distributors, system integrators and OEM partners.?
