The Hizbullah terrorist organization in southern Lebanon has begun keeping a close eye on Israel?s northern border, reports Lebanese Daily Star. The Hizbullah set up dozens of surveillance cameras along the northern border ?as part of a new strategy to keep the Israeli army at bay,? according to the Lebanese daily. Referring to Israel?s northern cities, the article says, ?All Israeli settlements now fall under surveillance for any sudden deployment of fighters along the border?? The cameras, say the Hizbullah spokespeople, are ?unaffected by weather or Israeli-caused electronic interference? and they ?will record any unusual Israeli activity or equipment and keep all main roads, which could be used for infiltration, under surveillance.?
The newspaper further quotes Hizbullah sources as saying that ?this system has been effective in keeping the enemy, including settlers and border area workers, under constant check without armed Hizbullah fighters coming into open areas.? According to the Daily Star, the camera system includes wireless networks and ?data collected from all cameras is brought together in one control room, where staff relay any unusual information to Hizbullah branch control centers along the border.?
