Temporary Lake In The Negev
A new reservoir has been created by the rains of this past week in the Negev. Only a few kilometers away from Kadesh Barne'a, on the Israeli-Egyptian border, the Jewish National Fund built an artificial reservoir - and then waited for it to be filled. The hoped-for rains came last week in a torrent, and suddenly residents of the Negev had 2.5 million cubic meters of water in which to swim and play. The new lake is expected to last a few months before its waters evaporate or disappear into the area's groundwater.
