The World Federation of Moroccan Jewry awarded Jewish Agency Chairman Sallai Meridor, at a ceremony in his offices in Jerusalem, a registration certificate in the Golden Book of Moroccan Jewry, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the major aliyah from Morocco. Meridor received a blessing, from Rabbi Pinchas Shniur, for a full ingathering of Jewish exiles in the Chairman?s lifetime.

The representatives of the World Federation of Moroccan Jewry committed themselves to enlisting members of the Moroccan community in Israel in the effort to absorb new immigrants from the Former Soviet Republics. As part of that effort, the World Federation promised to use the Mimouna festival, a Moroccan Jewish tradition popular in Israel, as an opportunity to welcome Russian-speaking immigrants into Moroccan-Israeli homes.
