Fatah is the terrorist sub-group of the PLO of which Yasser Arafat is the supreme commander. Fatah itself has many armed wings, including Arafat?s personal militia Force 17, and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. Therefore, when leaders of these groups speak, it is a window into the direct involvement of the Palestinian Authority in Arab terrorism.

In an interview with the London based Arabic newspaper al-Hayat, the Deputy Commander of Force 17, Muhammad Dhamrah, promised that ?the number of shootings at the occupation will increase to 500 to 1,000 shootings per day... The Palestinians have trained themselves to attack the Israeli tanks and explode their bodies that will be loaded with a belt of explosives, as part of the preparations for a possible Israeli attack in the Palestinian territories.?

Dhamrah was optimistic that the Arabs can overcome the Jews because, unlike the Jews, ?We can live on olives and za'tar and continue our struggle until the liberation of our land.?

The official spokesman of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Usama al-Najjar, detailed the extent to which Fatah terrorists are collaborating with the Islamist ?opposition? groups, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. In an interview with the Hizballah weekly, al-Intiqad, al-Najjar said, ?Recently, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades have announced that

it carries out operations together with the 'Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, and with members of the al-Quds Squads, the military wing of the

Islamic Jihad in Palestine. One example was the operation that took place on the opening day of the Maccabiah Games? [and] several shooting operations that took place in cooperation with the al-Quds Squads.? However, the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades ?do not carry out martyrdom [suicide] operations because we believe in the importance of protecting the lives of our Jihad-warriors, as much as possible...?

At the same time, ?some of [the Brigades?] members work in sensitive positions in the Palestinian Authority?s civil ministries or its security apparatuses. There has not been

any clash between the Brigades and the PA?. The Brigades respect the national interest and choose the place and the time to carry out its operations. We killed an Israeli settler and injured others on the first day of the week of 'calming.' We try

to expose the traitors and deliver them to the PA, without killing them, in order to avoid mistakes that were made in the past.?

Giving a bit of background, al-Najjar explains that the bulk of the members of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades ?were released when the Palestinian Authority moved into the West Bank and Gaza in 1994...? and its first operation ?was the killing of a Zionist settler near the West Bank village of Jalameh at the beginning of 2001?.? In principle, ?The Brigades believes in the strategy of operating against the Israelis wherever they are. We believe in road-side explosives, armed confrontations, and

sniper-shootings. The range for our operations is throughout occupied Palestine?.?

The future holds ?more operations in retaliation for the Israeli massacres,? until the occupation of Palestine ends, said the terrorist leader.

Speaking on Palestinian Authority TV, on August 12, Hani Al-Hasan, a leading Fatah member, tried to enlighten Arab viewers as to the nature of Israeli society. Saying, ?we must concentrate on Israeli society,? the Fatah terrorist warned his audience that ?one must not think that Israeli society is [made up of] right-wingers who wish to kill Palestinians.? Rather, the Jewish behavior in relation to Arabs stems from the fact that ?Israeli society is a frightened society and the problem is that, in general, Jews suffer from a phobia. They are always afraid and tense and we must see how we can take care of this.?
