A large operation to clean up the beaches of the Carmel region in the north of Israel is set for Wednesday (August 8). 700 youth members of moshavim (agricultural cooperatives) in Israel will be taking part, in conjunction with the Nature Reserves Authority and the Nature Preservation Society. The beaches which are to be cleaned have become contaminated by refuse left over by past beach-goers. Eyal Hefer, Secretary of the Moshav Movement Section, explained that the operation is an effort to increase ecological awareness and love of the land among moshav youth.
At the end of the operation the youths will form a human chain on the beach that will make the shape of the words, ?The beaches belong to us all.?
