Using human fetal stem cells, researchers from the Technion and the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa have generated human heart cells in a laboratory, a medical first. The cells, according to the researchers, can subdivide indefinitely into various types of human cells. Researchers believe that a future medical application of the breakthrough will be the grafting of new, healthy heart muscle cells onto damaged areas of the heart in heart attack victims.
