Nottingham, England was the scene of one of Israel?s most impressive successes in the world of swimming. The Israeli team sent to the World Swimming Championships for Victims of Cerebral Palsy captured thirteen medals and smashed six world records.
Yitzhak Mamistalov swept the 25, 50 and 100 meter races, taking gold and breaking world records in all three. Inbal Schwartz won two gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal in the low disability competitions. Liat Tashbini won the 50 meter swim for moderately disabled swimmers and took home the sixth Israeli gold medal.
Israeli athletes have been extremely successful in competitions for disabled swimmers. Keren Leibovitch broke three world records at the Para-Olympics in Sydney, Australia last year.
The athletes returned home on Sunday.
