Arik Ze?evi, the Israeli Judoka (student of Judo), won the silver medal this week in the World Judo Competition, which was held in Munich, Germany. Ze?evi took the silver medal in the open weight category by defeating Ramaz Chuchashvili of Georgia. The gold medal went to the Russian Judoka Alexander Michaelin.
Arik Ze?evi began judo at the age of seven in the Hapoel Bnei Barak clubhouse in the rough, underprivileged neighborhood of Pardes Katz. He just lost the bronze medal in the Sydney Olympics, after a controversial referee decision. In May, Ze?evi succeeded in taking first place in the European Judo championship in the under-100 kilo category.
