A spontaneous demonstration against Israel, following a successful Israeli strike against a Hamas office in Shechem, was cut short on Tuesday when Jordanian police banned several hundred demonstrators from marching on the cabinet building in Amman to demand the cancellation of the Israeli-Jordanian peace treaty. Police closed off the main road and prevented the march.

In Karachi, Pakistan, the measures taken against anti-Israel demonstrators were more serious, according to the Arab News information service. Police set up roadblocks in order to prevent the protesters, who were chanting ?Down with Israel! Long Live the Palestinian struggle,? from marching on the main M.A. Jinnah Road in Karachi. Firing tear gas, warning shots and wielding batons, the police detained some 30 demonstrators and injured several others. The confrontation continued for an hour.

?Is this a pro-Israel government that doesn?t even allow a rally in support of our Palestinian brothers and sisters?? one of the demonstrators said.
