According to the Israeli financial newspaper Globes, a new joint Israeli-Jordanian industrial zone was inaugurated last week near Amman, Jordan, by King Abdallah II. Twelve textile factories are located in the industrial zone, which, according to the report, employs ?2,000 workers, and the number of people working at the park is expected to grow to 20,000 within two years.? Most of the factories in the zone are reported to be owned by investors from Arab countries and Pakistan, but, ?the extent of Israeli investments in the zone is unknown,? according to Globes.

The new Israeli-Jordanian industrial zone is far from unique, such partnerships exist in similar zones elsewhere in Jordan, as well. Globes reports that the zone is a Qualifying Industrial Zone (QIZ), ?which enables textiles to be exported to the US without paying tariffs.? Jordanian figures quoted in Globes reveal that ?the QIZs export over $120 million per year, of which 30% goes to Israel, 60% to the US, and the rest to Arab countries and Europe.?
