Apparently Arab states, and not only Israel, are concerned with the presence of notorious Palestinian terrorists within their borders. According to Monday?s edition of the Al-Majd Jordanian weekly, Abu Nidal, Secretary General of the splinter terrorist organization the Fatah-Revolutionary Council, is in need of medical treatment unavailable in Iraq, his current place of exile. When news of Abu Nidal?s intention to seek medical attention abroad leaked to Lebanese security services, those Arab states bordering Iraq immediately took extensive security measures to prevent the terrorist from entering their borders.

In a related story, also reported in Al-Majd, the failed Jordanian attempt to prevent the entry of a Qatari plane carrying Hamas activist, Ibrahim Rosche, into Jordan has left an open wound in Qatar-Jordan relations. Qatar?s ruler, Sheikh Hamad, still feels ?deeply wounded,? particularly because the Jordanian press accused the Qatari leadership of being Israeli hirelings, conspiring against Jordan.

While discussing the Qatari assistance to the Hamas activist, the Jordanian Minister of Information, Saleh al-Qallab, made reference to the Qatari leader?s deposing of his own father. As a result, the Jordanian King Abdullah was sharply rebuffed when he proposed a meeting with the Qatari Foreign Minister in London. Qatar is further seeking judicial redress for the losses it sustained while its airplane was held at the Amman airport during the two week standoff, when Jordan refused to allow the Hamas activist to deplane.
