Lebanon's Al Anwar reported on June 21st that "warning fire shots were fired at a CNN crew ... filming the return of hashish growing in the Bekaa Valley." CNN Beirut Bureau Chief Brent Sadler told local media that some 11 Arabs, armed with machineguns, ambushed his team that was busy filming activity on hashish plantations in the Bekaa Valley. The gunmen confiscated the crew's cameras. The growing and marketing of drugs represents one of Syria's chief financial interests in the valley.
