Al Messa'a journalist Mohammad Fouda seems to have to hit the nail on the head this week when he articulates Ariel Sharon's strategy in calling a unilateral ceasefire last week, with the goal of "putting the Palestinian Authority in an awkward position by exposing it to the world as a peace opponent. By doing so, Sharon strives to have the US Peace Envoy William Burns, soon to arrive in Israel for talks, relay to the American public opinion, that it is the Palestinians, not the Israelis who are the warmongers; that it is Palestinians, not the Israelis who stand opposed to negotiating on interim agreements."
