In an article entitled "Killers of Peace" in Syria's official Tishrin newspaper, M. Agha writes that the recent visit there by the Pope "has confirmed a fact that Syria under the leadership of President Bashar al Assad is a true advocate of peace and amity." The Pope apparently overlooked the tight cooperation of Syria with Iranian and Palestinian terrorist interests when he implied, according to Tishrin, that "he is confident that under the guidance of president al Assad Syria will spare no effort to work for greater harmony and cooperation among the peoples of the region."
In reference to the Pope's visit to the city of Kunetra, Agha notes that the Pope provided a "real blessing to the sad city which will certainly be reunited with other occupied territories when they are liberated from the yoke of Israeli occupation...This city which was deliberately destroyed by the Israeli aggressors just before they left, is a live witness of the Zionist atrocities."
Then, in a particularly scathing anti-Israel invective, the journalist writes: "The Israelis have repeatedly proved their disregard and disrespect of the heavenly religions. They have desecrated al Aqsa Mosque and killed worshippers inside the court. And they digged out Christian cemeteries and spread the bodies of the dead in an abhorrent manner on the surface of soil. This indicates their racist ideology and practices." Extending the imagery of the Jew as the enemy of all that is good and moral in the world, Agha adds: "The Israelis are not only trying to kill the principles of heavenly religions in the same mentality they used when they betrayed Jesus Christ and in the same manner they used when they tried to betray Prophet Mohammed, but they also try to kill every pulse of life in the Arab homeland."
