As June approaches, the Gesher ("Bridge") Internship Program is gearing up for another summer of linking Jewish students around the world with life and work in Israel. The purpose of the Program is to introduce qualified students from abroad to the business, work, and cultural environments in Israel through a summer internship in an Israeli company. By participating in the program, students have the opportunity to experience daily life in Israel, meet with senior Israeli business executives, tour the country, and engage in a variety of other business and social activities.

The Gesher Internship Program was co-founded in 1989 by concerned American students and the Israel Forum. The Forum, which now organizes the program, is an independent, non-profit, volunteer, apolitical Israeli organization. Volunteers and professionals in fields like business, law, and public affairs comprise the working staff of the organization. The Forum takes care of all the logistics of the program. Before students arrive, Forum officials contact Israeli companies to secure internship positions, and evaluate and distribute student resumes and applications to interested corporations. It encourages these potential employers to contact the students for an initial interview. Once students arrive, the Forum arranges for work visas, and organizes educational seminars, lectures and tours. The Gesher Internship Program is open to undergraduate students of at least Junior standing and above as well as graduate students concentrating in business, computers, engineering, economics, or sciences. Students do not have to know Hebrew, since English is widely spoken and used as the international business language. Knowledge of Hebrew is, however, advantageous - since it increases the range of internship opportunities available to applicants.
