Egyptian papers had refreshing new metaphors to describe Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his policies this week. Blasting US-Israeli cooperation, Sanaa Al Said writes in "Al Wafd": "America's collaboration with Israeli blood sucker Ariel Sharon has been in compliance with his request. The man seems to have talked the Bush Administration into adopting a hands-off policy in the Middle East on the premise that force, brute force, is the only means to extinguishing the fires of the intifada bringing the Palestinians down upon their knees and dictating Tel Aviv's terms."

Ragab Al Banna of "October Magazine" begins his article declaring that Israel is about to wage an "all-out war against the Palestinian people." In a then-almost frantic tone, he predicts: "Should these threats materialize, anarchy would most likely prevail. Anger could reach the point when it could no longer be contained! A new leaf in the chapter of terrorism would be turned! Many parties would be involved in terrorist activities. The fire of sedition would likely spread like flames in a hay stack."

For some time, Egypt has been turning a blind eye to the smuggling of weaponry through the tunnels near the town of Rafiach in northern Egypt to the PLO and Hamas in Gaza. Terrorist attacks at IDF soldiers stationed on the Israeli side of the border are prompting IDF return fire. Al Alam Al Yom journalist Mahmoud Al Tohami, however, seems to ignore the context of fighting when he writes: "Great indeed are the dangers that Sharon so far fails to see when he ventures into battles close to Israeli borders with Egypt. He is not likely ever to be left long to set the region on fire."
