The Jerusalem Media and Communication Center has released the results of a poll on "Palestinian Attitudes Towards Politics including the Current Intifada." A random sample of 1200 people over the age of 18 were interviewed face-to-face throughout Judea, Samaria and Gaza. One of the survey's central findings is the overwhelming support among Palestinians for suicide bombs against Israeli civilians. Specifically, the question asked was: "How do you feel about suicide bombing operations against Israeli civilians in Israel? Do you strongly support, somewhat support, somewhat oppose, or strongly oppose suicide bombings against Israeli civilians?" A whopping 73.7% came out in support of such actions - with 54.4% strongly supporting such attacks, and 19.3% "somewhat supportive." Only 15.9% of respondents either somewhat or strongly oppose suicide bombings of civilian targets. It was not surprising to JMCC surveyors to learn that 80% of Yesha Arabs support the continuation of the mini-war against Israel, while only 13.3% oppose its continuation.

One clear message evident in the results, notes Arutz-7's Ron Meir, is that Yesha Arabs see no contradiction between continuing their war against Israel, including the dispatching of suicide bombers and the continuation of the so-called "peace process." JMCC reports that of those questioned, only 29.7% feel that the "process" is over, while 43. 8% feel that it is simply "passing through difficult conditions, with an unclear future." Over 19% of respondents felt that the process is still alive, and that negotiations may very well resume in the future.

According to Meir, "the Arabs who responded to the survey understand that the goal of Oslo is the turnover of all of Judea, Samaria and Gaza to the PLO, the division of Jerusalem, and other concessions. Oslo was Israel's way of capitulating to the first intifada of the late 80's and early 90's; when Arafat did not get everything he wanted at Camp David, he decided to launch a new intifada, featuring the weapons provided him by the Rabin government and ammunition smuggled in through the tunnels in Rafiach and elsewhere. It is perfectly logical for the Arabs under PLO rule to heavily support the mini-war, including the use of suicide bombers, and not to rule out the continuation of Oslo. Both Arafat and those under his rule are hoping that the terrorism succeeds in 'pushing the peace process forward.'"
