Twenty-first century robotics, artificial vision, and brain imaging were among the topics that were explored at an international joint NATO/Bar-Ilan University workshop on the application of algebraic geometry to coding theory, physics and computation. The workshop took place recently in the port city of Eilat. "The goal of the workshop was to present some of the best recent work in algebraic geometry, with an emphasis on possible relations with and applications to mathematical physics and coding theory," said workshop organizer, mathematician Prof. Mina Teicher, Vice President of Research at Bar-Ilan University. Representatives from the American National Science Foundation and the NATO Scientific Affairs Division attended the workshop, which was run jointly with Israel's Ministry of Science and was sponsored by the NATO Scientific Affairs Division.
