The Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP) was clearly disturbed by this week's efforts by Jews, headed by the Temple Mount Faithful organization, to obtain permission to pray on the Temple Mount. "Jerusalemite Muslims today repulsed fresh efforts by Jewish mobs and other extremists to encroach on Islamic holy places at the Haram al Sharif compound in Jerusalem," IAP reported on Tuesday. Why the resistance? The Arabs were responding to a Waqf call to stop "messianic zionists from desecrating the holy place." The news agency then offered its understanding of the Jewish interest in asserting Jewish rights on the Mount and elsewhere in the Land of Israel: "Most messianic Jews believe that the appearance of the 'redeemer' should be induced by bloodshed and genocidal war on a very large scale, hence the incessant attempts of Jewish settlers to fan the flames of violence against Palestinian civilians."
