"Israel the aggressor" continued to be the theme throughout the week at the Arab League summit in Amman, Jordan. According to the "Gulf Times," Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani condemned what he claimed were Israeli violations of UN conventions and called for the deployment of an international force to Israel "to protect the Palestinians from the Jewish state." In a speech to the delegates - laden with anti-Israel rhetoric - the Emir said that "Israel, prompted by its arrogance and intransigence, has openly threatened the security of sisterly Arab countries and, thus, our national Arab security." In the same spirit as other Arab leaders and prominent journalists, the Sheikh ignored the activities of heavily-armed PLO paramilitary and Hamas terrorist forces, asserting that maintaining stability requires securing "international protection for the unarmed Palestinian people."

Egyt's Al-Wafd also stated prior to the summit that Egypt would use the meeting to call "for international protection for Palestinians," and trials "for Israeli war criminals." The paper also renewed its previous calls for "world inspection of Israeli nuclear facilities."
