Syria's official Tishrin newspaper reports on the Fatah announcement this week in which the group said that "it will make Jewish settlers' lives a nightmare to scupper Israeli leader Ariel Sharon's hopes of stability. According to the report, Fatah has instructed Arab terrorists to "step up attacks on Jewish settlers and Israeli soldiers, and singled out the nearby settlement of Gilo on the outskirts of Jerusalem as a target. In the statement quoted by Tishrin, local Arab leaders warned that "The Sharon era will not be that of stability and tranquillity as the criminal Sharon claims. The settlements that he spent his life building and establishing at the expense of Palestinian lands will turn into hell and fire which will undermine his aggressive and hostile philosophy." Fatah closed its threat by declaring: "The downfall of Sharon and his settlements is our aim."
