Ramat Gan's Bar-Ilan University has announced that it intends to open a School of Engineering this fall. Establishment of the school was approved in principle last week by the Budget and Planning Committee of the Council for Higher Education, and discussed this week by the full Council. The school's curricula have now been forwarded by the Council to academic committees for approval.

The new School of Engineering will focus on teaching and research towards a B.Sc. degree, and in the future, towards M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. The School will focus on electronics and telecommunications, computer and software engineering, and electro-optics. To facilitate the institute's opening, Prof. George Moschytz of the prestigious Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) has joined Bar-Ilan University's faculty. "Bar-Ilan University hopes to open student enrollment for the new School soon, following final approval by the Council for Higher Education," says Prof. Moshe Kaveh, President of Bar-Ilan University.
