Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is now working on broadening his newly-shrunken government, and negotiations with National Union-Yisrael Beiteinu are set to begin on Sunday. This faction is composed of three parties: the four MKs of Yisrael Beiteinu, headed by MK Avigdor Lieberman - who is in favor of new elections as soon as possible; Tekumah (2 MKs); and Moledet (1). Tekumah demands a military defeat of the Palestinians; government support for a Constitutional Court with authorities superceding those of the Supreme Court; and opening the Temple Mount to Jewish worshipers.
The Meretz party, headed by MK Yossi Sarid, plans to propose a no-confidence motion in the government on Monday. Though the coalition numbers only 55 MKs (out of 120), the motion is not expected to receive the required 61 votes in order to be passed.
