Outgoing Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer parted from workers of the Defense Ministry and the IDF General Staff this morning. He told the officers that the IDF "had made unprecedented achievements, on an international scale, in its war against Palestinian terrorism, as well as on the northern front" - but he noted that the war had not yet ended. Ben-Eliezer said yesterday that he had signed demolition orders against 51 illegal-built Arab structures in Yesha (Judea, Samaria and Gaza). He also said that he plans to meet with various opposition parties and try to form a consensus for a date for new elections.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon officially offered the post of Defense Minister to Sha'ul Mofaz last night. Mofaz, who only a few months ago ended his army career as Chief of Staff, said he would decide within a few days whether to accept the position.
Warnings of possible terrorist attacks continue to be in effect in various parts of the country. Despite this, the curfew around the PA-controlled city of Shechem was removed this morning.
