A senior officer in the Central Command says that the army has the ability to significantly reduce the terrorism in Judea and Samaria - but that if it does, mortar attacks are liable to result. The officer told a Yesha settlement leader last night that the army knows the identity of the local terrorist leaders, and that they are mostly heads of the Palestinian security organs. However, he said, the army has chosen not to hit them in order not to provide an excuse for a further escalation of the violence. Arutz-7\'s Ariel Kahane quoted the officer as saying that the army could end the drive-by shootings in the area if it wanted to, by \"shaving\" buildings and groves from the sides of the roads - but if it does, it is feared that the terrorists will switch to mortar shellings, as in Gaza.
