IDF forces completed a redeployment of its troops from most of the PLO-controlled neighborhoods in Hevron over the weekend. Soldiers will remain in the Abu Sneineh and Haret a-Sheikh neighborhoods to prevent terrorists from firing towards the Jewish neighborhoods below. Jewish residents say that the withdrawal will enable Hevron to become yet another stronghold for terrorists in which to prepare attacks and find refuge.
MK Michael Kleiner (Herut) had scathing words for Ben-Eliezer's decisions to withdraw from Hevron: "The government is following a policy of maximum errors in minimum time... Each time the IDF leaves Area A (PA-controlled areas), it costs Israel in blood.
Kleiner also had some sharp words for Labor on other fronts: "The terror organizations and the Labor Party are working in unison to harm the Jewish settlement enterprise in Yesha... For electoral purposes, the Labor Party is trying to sow the seeds of civil war. Fuad [Ben-Eliezer] set the soldiers upon the Yesha residents at Gilad Farm, and now he is trying to set the development town residents upon them. The public understands that the Labor ministers are detached, are acting only for political purposes, and prefer what is good for their party rather than what is good for the country. Even on a day of a severe attack, the members of this beloved party continue to lash out against the Yesha enterprise."
