The Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has launched a high-profile campaign to buy Israeli products. The Federation has provided a catalogue with a range of products from all over Israel, and is encouraging its members to buy Israeli products in supermarkets and to report whenever they see Israeli products stocked on supermarket shelves. It is estimated that if 20% of the Jewish community, or the equivalent number of Jewish and Christian supporters, spend £10 a week on products from Israel, this could generate an additional £25 million per year in imports from Israel. “This would make a significant difference in the lives of many Israelis and would help to boost the Israeli economy,” said Federation Executive-Director Alan Aziz
In addition, the Zionist Federation is organizing Israel Expo 2002 in London on December 1, at which over 150 Israeli businesses will sell their products. The event is co-sponsored by The Jewish Chronicle. The Federation has also recently resolved to only use Israeli products at its functions, if possible.
