Rabbi Meir Kahane was remembered last night in a Jerusalem ceremony marking the 12th anniversary of his murder by an Arab gunman in New York. Among those speaking in his memory were Rabbis Shlomo Aviner, Sholom Gold, Yaakov Yosef, Eliezer Waldman, and Yitzchak HaLevy, as well as Chief Sephardic Rabbi Korach of Bnei Brak and Yosef Mendlevitch. MK Rabbi Chaim Druckman said, "I first met him 47 years ago in New York, and I was impressed by a serious young G-d-fearing Torah scholar, a truly proud Jew... Since then, he grew - he grew in Torah, and in many good deeds, and above all - in self-sacrifice. He was all self-sacrifice... for the People of Israel, for the Land of Israel, and for the Torah of Israel. He was a fighter, and I am sure that he is continuing to fight for these causes in the Eternal World... Reb Meir's great character shines upon us from on high."
