Residents of the Assaf Outpost between Ofrah and Beit El were granted a hearing in the Civil Administration Offices in Beit El this morning, after a demolition order on their homes was issued late last week. The residents told Arutz-7's Kobi Sela afterwards that the hearings were "staged," and that it appears that the decision to evict them and destroy the site has already been made. The residents still have 24 hours to appeal to the Supreme Court against the dismantling.
Meretz MKs Yossi Sarid and Mosi Raz arrived at Assaf today to demand its immediate demolition. Sarid said that the outposts are "worse than explosives belts [of the type used by suicide terrorists to murder hundreds of Israelis]."
The six families who live at the site, which is a critical junction along the Jerusalem-Ofrah highway, were joined by several more over the past two weeks. One of the latter is Geulah Hershkovitz and her children; she is the widow of Aryeh Hershkovitz and the mother of Assaf Hershkovitz, who were murdered in two separate roadside terrorist attacks within 13 weeks of each other last year. The outpost is named for her son Assaf, whose murdered occurred only a few hundred meters away from the site.
