(Updated Sunday 10:30 AM) Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has given Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer a green light to implement the “Judea First” plan. Ben-Eliezer has already been preparing to implement the first stage of the plan: a troop withdrawal from Hevron, except for the soldiers stationed in the Abu Sneineh Hills (Givat Shalhevet). Arab gunmen have on numerous occasions taken positions on Abu Sneineh, to fire at people inside the ancient Jewish city. At this morning’s Security Cabinet meeting Ben-Eliezer sad that it is important to give the Palestinians the necessary incentives to take action [in maintaining quiet in areas they control].
