Residents of the also-threatened Assaf Junction outpost have been served with eviction notices, but will be granted a hearing on Monday. "Yesterday was a day of ups-and-downs," Dr. Aryeh Bachrach, spokesman for the outpost, said today. "For a while it looked very good, but now unfortunately we see that they are not letting us alone. We fear that the hearing will be a very perfunctory matter, and that the Central Command officers may simply say, 'Sorry, you didn't convince us.' But we are far from despair." The Assaf Outpost is located at a critical junction along the highway leading from Jerusalem northwards to Ofrah and Shilo, at the turnoff to Beit El. Terrorists have shot at Israeli motorists between Beit El and Ofrah several times, murdering three people.
