The Hapoel Jerusalem basketball team snapped a lengthy losing streak tonight, winning its first European league game since December 2020 against the Turkish team Karsiyaka 85:65.
This was a critical game for Hapoel, giving it the chance to remain in the running for a spot in the championship. Had Hapoel lost, the loss would have been added to those suffered during a poor start to the tournament to eliminate the Israeli team entirely.
Despite being surrounded by a crowd fiercely supporting the other team, Jerusalem went on a 23:9 run in the last quarter to finish the game well above the preferred three-point difference.
Betting agencies had been wagering ahead of the game that the home team would beat Jerusalem by at least six points before the game, noting how easily Hapoel could be eliminated from the tournament.
As of now, the Jerusalem team is not only still in the running but has a realistic shot at a championship spot as well.
