Yasser Arafat and top Palestinian Authority officials, abandoning all pretenses, refused to condemn Thursday's human bomb attack at a crowded bus stop near Tel Aviv. Michael Widlanski of Media Line reports that the official PA spokesmen made a point of not calling the attack an act of terrorism. Instead, they blamed what they called "the Tel Aviv government" for provoking it by military offensives such as uncovering arms-smuggling tunnels near Rafiach. A 71-year-old grandmother of 15, Saadah Aharon, was murdered in yesterday's suicide bombing. She was buried in Rosh Ha'Ayin last night.
