In coordination with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Internal Security Minister Omer Bar-Lev has decided to open a governmental commission of inquiry into the escape if six security prisoners earlier this week.

The commission will be headed by a retired judge, who will examine the failures that enabled the security prisoners to escape on Monday.

The decision to establish the committee was made after consultation with Attorney General Dr. Avichai Mandelblit, and will be submitted to the government for approval.

Minister Bar-Lev said: "We will not leave stone upon stone without examination. On Monday night there was a serious failure that must be addressed in full. I trust the Israeli government to confirm my recommendation and we will be able to get to the root of the events that led to this difficult outcome."

MK Simcha Rotman of the Religious Zionism Party said in response: "The event of the escape in itself does not necessarily have to lead to personal conclusions on its own. However, the long-term failure in the treatment of security prisoners and the management of Gilboa Prison justifies a thorough cleaning of the stables at the top of the Prison Service and the Ministry of Internal Security."
