Two sisters from the Jewish community of Antwerp, Belgium were killed when they were struck by a truck while crossing the street Tuesday morning, Yeshiva World News reported.

The older of the sisters was nine years old, while the younger was a year and a half.

The children's father is one of the leaders of the local Gerrer hasidic community.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident.
