Daylight savings time comes to an end in Israel tonight. At 1 AM, clocks will be moved back one hour. Sabbath began in Jerusalem two days ago at 5:45 PM, yet this week it will start at approximately 4:35 PM. For the next several weeks, Israel will be one hour ahead of London, six ahead of New York, nine ahead of Los Angeles, and eight behind Melbourne and Sydney.

Interior Minister Eli Yeshai said he would work to lengthen summer-clock time, which is presently in effect for some 175 days a year. He says the goal should be 190 days a year or more. Some estimates are that the economy saves a million shekels every three days of summertime.
