Dozens of firefighters and rescue crews are searching for missing persons after an apartment building partially collapsed on 8777 Collins Avenue, Surfside Florida at around 1:20 a.m. Thursday morning.
Fox News reported that police told them it was unclear how many people were stranded beneath the rubble.
Miami Dade Fire Rescue tweeted that, "Over 80 MDFR units including TRT (Technical Rescue Teams) are on scene with assistance from municipal fire departments."
CBS reported that at least nine individuals had been transferred to a nearby hospital for further treatment and that at least one boy had been pulled out of the debris and that one person has been pronounced dead in the incident so far.
Fox News quoted a witness to the incident as saying the blast was so loud, it sounded like a, "tornado or earthquake" adding that it appeared as if much of the facility was occupied.
