An elderly pedestrian was killed in a fatal bus accident that took place Monday morning on Hamagid Mimezrich Street in Beitar Illit.
The woman, 91, was a resident of Beitar Illit.
United Hatzalah volunteer EMT Yisrael Aharon Ben-Shem who was one of the first responders at the scene relayed: "A woman who was crossing the street was critically injured after she was hit by a bus. Together with other EMS personnel who arrived I performed CPR on the woman in an attempt to save her life. Unfortunately, our efforts were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident."
Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedic Haim Bernstein said: "The female pedestrian was lying on the road near the bus, unconscious and suffering a very severe head injury. She had no heartbeat and was not breathing, and we immediately began attempts to perform CPR on her, after which we were forced to declare her death at the scene."
Israel Police said: "The police hotline received a report regarding a road accident in Beitar Illit. According to the report, a bus hit a pedestrian, who was critically injured (as per medical sources). Traffic investigators have opened an investigation into the cause of the accident."
