Capt. Har'el Marmelstein, 23, of Mevaseret Zion was killed this morning while commanding a naval commando unit in search of a highly wanted Hamas terrorist. The unit had received information that the terrorist was hiding out in a cave outside a village east of Tul Karem. They found and encircled the cave when suddenly gunfire broke out from within. Marmelstein was fatally wounded, but his troops returned fire and killed the terrorist - who in fact was the one they were seeking, top Hamas man Nashet Jabara. They also apprehended two of Jabara's accomplices. Jabara had planned to carry out an attack in the coming days, and army forces demolished his home several hours later.

Arutz-7's Kobi Finkler reports that for hours after the battle, the vicinity was rocked by many disturbances, including Arab rock-throwing and firebombs.

Capt. Marmelstein, about whom his high school principal once said was headed to becoming IDF Chief of Staff, will be buried at Mt. Herzl Military Cemetery tomorrow morning at 10 AM.

Another Palestinian terrorist was killed today near the northern Gaza community of Elei Sinai, into which he was assumed to be heading to perpetrate a murderous attack. On his body were found a Kalachnikov assault rifle, six cartridges of bullets and two grenades. A second terrorist fled the scene, and soldiers began a manhunt. Lt.-Col. Yossi Hadad, local regional IDF commander, said this morning that the troops' alertness prevented a major attack within Elei Sinai. It will be one year next week since Corp. Liron Harpaz, 19, and Assaf Yitzchaki, 20, were murdered in an attack of that nature in Elei Sinai.
