Foreign Minister Shimon Peres met with UN Secretary-General Kofi Anan last night and told him that Syria was preventing the Lebanese government from deploying its forces along its southern border. Peres explained that this was a violation of the UN resolutions calling for just such a deployment to safeguard against Hizbullah attacks against Israel. Peres also said yesterday that Israel would continue to allow the Palestinian population, \"which is not engaged in warfare against Israel,\" to live normal lives. The army began removing encirclements and restrictions from around PA cities this morning.
