Last night IDF troops, backed by tanks and helicopters, moved into three sections of PLO-controlled Gaza in a move aimed at weakening the terror infrastructure. PLO officials say that at least nine Arabs were killed, and twenty others wounded in exchanges with the troops. Among the dead were two senior Al-Aksa Brigade terrorists. During the operation, Arabs threw an explosive device at a group of soldiers, but it failed to do any harm.

Troops blew up the homes of several terrorists including the Gaza City residence of Mohammad Farakhat. Farakhat was responsible for the shooting attack in the Atzmona pre-military yeshiva (religious academy) this past March that claimed the lives of five Israeli teenagers.

In addition, troops destroyed thirteen metal workshops, which were used to produce Kassam rockets. The IDF spokeswoman says that since the beginning of September, 58 rocket manufacturing plants were uncovered in Gaza. Following the conclusion of the operation this morning, the soldiers pulled out of the area.
