President Moshe Katzav, on behalf of the State of Israel, presented the Israel Museum last week with an ancient Bible printed in Spain not later than the year 1287. The unique volume somehow reached Syria in its wanderings through the Jewish exile, and Deputy Minister Rabbi Michael Melchior explained that the Syrian-Jewish owner decided to give it to Israel "in appreciation of the help he had received from Israel." The book will be on permanent loan to the museum. For more details, see Arutz-7 TV News in the segment entitled "Mukata Under Siege."
