Commentator, the official undergraduate newspaper of Yeshiva University's Yeshiva College, reports that the search for the next President of YU is now down to two candidates: Drs. David Schnall and David Shatz. This revelation follows the resignation of long-time candidate Efrat Chief Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, whose residence and official capacities in the Gush Etzion town rendered his assumption of the YU position untenable.
The Search Committee for Rabbi Dr. Norman Lamm’s successor is currently preparing to submit the above two names to the university's Selection Committee a few weeks from now. Both Schnall and Shatz are ordained rabbis and well-known scholars with extensive publications in their respective fields. Dr. Shatz, Professor of Philosophy at Yeshiva and editor of The Torah U’Madda Journal, has published seven books and approximately 50 articles and reviews dealing with both general and Jewish philosophy. He recently completed a compendium of essays and articles dealing with 9/11 from a Jewish philosopher’s perspective. Dr. Schnall, a noted lecturer, is the newly-appointed Dean of Yeshiva’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work, the author of six books and a contributor of over 60 articles to numerous professional journals and periodicals.
