The French District Attorney said today he would appeal the sudden decision to free Nazi collaborator Maurice Papon from prison. Papon, 92, has been serving a ten-year sentence in a French prison for complicity in crimes against humanity - specifically for ordering almost 1,700 Jews deported from Bordeaux. Most of them were sent to Auschwitz, where almost all of them died. Papon was freed this afternoon by a French appeals court on grounds of his ill health.
