IDF tanks entered PA-controlled areas in Gaza during the night, and operated in three areas, destroying some electricity infrastructures. No casualties were reported on either side. The IDF explained that the offensive was in reaction to a Kassam rocket and mortar shells that were fired last night at a Jewish community in Gush Katif. One shell hit a home, but no one was hurt. At the same town, Arabs shot at the town for three hours; no one was hurt, and soldiers returned fire.
In an incident near Tul Karem, Border Guard police and an IDF helicopter were shot at; the chopper was hit by at least two bullets, but landed safely. This was the first time that an Israel Air Force helicopter was hit in the two-year-old Oslo War. The Israeli forces returned fire.
A general closure will be imposed on Judea, Samaria and Gaza today until 2 AM Tues morning, in light of intelligence warnings of possible terrorist attempts. Gaza crossings and the Allenby Bridge will also be closed.
