Women of the Shilo-Eli-Maaleh Levonah area of the Shomron, about 15 miles north of Jerusalem, refuse to give up their struggle for safe travel. They moved this morning into a building in the Arab village of Luban el-Sharqiya, from where fatal and other attacks have recently been launched. This is the third time in a month that they have taken over this structure in their campaign to have IDF forces demolish it.
In a letter to women of the area this week, the organizers of the struggle wrote,
"About a month ago, we lost a precious couple from Hilltop 9 in Eli, Avi and Avital Vilensky, may Hashem avenge their blood, [in a shooting attack] about a kilometer from Shilo on the road passing by the village of Luban. [There have been other attacks in that area, including...] We have not yet received word of progress in our demand to clear away the roadsides and to destroy the houses used by the murderers [- even though] we were promised by senior army sources, including Central Commander Gen. Moshe Kaplinsky, that the matter would be dealt with. The army has significantly increased its presence here, but... we do not want only a temporary respite. We protest the injustice and the daily danger that faces us as long as this house is not demolished and as long as the terrorist's home still stands and his family lives safely inside it.
"...After the Dickstein couple and their son were murdered [near Maon, south of Hevron], the residents there began an uncompromising struggle that led to the razing of five buildings connected with that attack. We have good reason to believe that our struggle is [also] a worthy one..."
